- Decide, without hesitation, that you are going to write this book. This is no small undertaking, and the more you think about, the less likely you are to actually do it and the more likely you are to overthink it and blow it.
- Write down all of the talking points you intend on covering throughout the book - This gives you clarity, and many of these talking points will become your chapter titles, headings, and subheadings.
- Write out a rough table of contents. This is by no means final. Do the introduction last.
- At this point, with your rough table of contents and talking points, you have the steps laid out in front of you. So, all that is left is, well, walking up the steps. Set aside large chunks of time to write. A book cannot be written 30 minutes at a time because your mind will never get into those flow states. Don't start writing unless you have 3+ hours of time on your hands.
- Check for content - Once finished writing the book, read through it from start to finish, making any changes you wish.
- Check for grammar - Buy Grammarly Premium to catch grammatical errors and provide vocabulary enhancements. Don't just click through and change everything it suggests because Grammarly is not always correct.
- Once changes in previous two steps are made, read through it all again.
- Hire a freelancer to proofread your manuscript on Fiverr.
- Proof the book yourself another time, for both content and grammar.
- Learn how to create a badass book cover (very hard to do, click for 3-minute video to learn how to do it in Photoshop) or hire a professional to do it on 99designs ($299, designers from around the world review your design brief and submit unique ideas. You provide feedback, hone your favorites and choose a winner).
- Create a single page book website like Growth-Mindset-Book.com (click here to leave it to the professionals to develop a website that looks, feels, and functions like that of a fortune 500 company).
- Find a few friends with large email lists to promote a valuable piece of content you produced for them. You will owe your friends a reciprocal favor down the line.
- Find a publisher or self-publish with https://kdp.amazon.com (yes, Amazon is taking over the world).
- Do a modern book tour by appearing on numerous podcasts. Go on LinkedIn and search "podcast host" in the search tab and connect with all podcast hosts. Some will message you. Some might even ask you to be on their show if your profile is as filled out and as clean as it can be, but you will probably have to reach out to them. It is important to not ask for the favor directly but to build a relationship with them. Dig the well before you are thirsty. If you are a fit, they will ask you to be on the show. If they don't ask, they don't want you. Don't push it.
- Enjoy your creation. You did that. Meditate on it.
