Less Generic, More Specific

added 8/31/26 · 8 years later The universe thrives on specificity. The more you hold a vision in your mind, the more likely it is to come into being. And the more specifically you think about that vision - that is, the more detailed it is in your mind - all the more likely it is to come into being. Exponentially more likely, in fact. This is also highly relevant to a new product my team and I are building right now called House. The old model of project management systems: you sign up for Airtable, ClickUp, SmartSuite, or Monday.com, and then you spend weeks or even months engineering it to be something close (but never quite) what you need it to be. You see, the old model is build it for everyone, and in the end nobody is more than 80% happy with the solution because it wasn't built for them. Now that building software has been democratized in the age of AI, we no longer have to bow and scrape at the feet of the software elite, just taking whatever they are willing to give us - our overlords. Well, overlords no more. You no longer have to rent from them. You can own the house with a custom solution that is made for you (even by you). That's what we're doing with House. It's a project management system built specifically for Email Marketing and Retention Agencies for Ecommerce Brands. It has everything that type of agency needs, and nothing they don't.Everyone wants to appear on the first page of Google's first page of search rankings. It's the dream of businesses small and large. Gangster Vegan is a great vegan cafe I go to from time to time. Everyone loves it. With two locations, they are a very small business. Ranking #1 for the keywords "vegan" or "vegan cafe" is near impossible unless hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent to get there. Gangster Vegan will likely never rank anywhere near the top for these keywords, perhaps not even the top 20 pages. It's because these are generic keywords. But guess what? If you type in "gangster vegan," you'll find them. In fact, they are the only result you'll see for almost 10 pages. It's because this is a specific keyword.

To be found, you'll more than likely have to be less generic and more specific.

It's the same principle in all of life. There are over seven billion people on Earth, so, if you want to be noticed, you have to be different, you have to be an oddball, you have to be specific. Be specific, and you'll be worth talking about, which will lead to people seeking you out and searching for you in terms of the specific.
