Are You Depressed or Are You Miserable? Here's the Difference

The more I reminisce about my experience as a high schooler, I am beginning to realize that maybe I wasn't depressed at all. I think I was just miserable."What's the difference?"

Well, I believe the difference between depression and misery is this:

  • Depression is not a voluntary state. It is not a choice. People who are depressed don't feel sorry for themselves.
  • Misery, on the other hand, is a voluntary state. It is a choice. People who are miserable cry, "poor me, look at how bad my life is."

In my case, I think I chose to be miserable. I chose to host my own pity party. In the same way, I chose to pick up the pieces, live freely, love openly, and do something that matters.
